Aldente
It is a well-known fact that frequently charging your Mac’s battery or any Li-ion battery for that matter and leaving it connected to the charger all the time will have a significant negative impact on the battery’s lifespan.
So, using a smart charging manager app like Aldente will help you to extend the lifespan of your Mac’s battery by features like charging limit, heat protection, automatic calibration, and more.
Source: App ScreenshotYou can use the Aldente app to set a charging limit so your Mac won’t be charged above a certain percentage. The discharge feature also allows you to run your Mac on battery, even if connected to the charger.
Background Music
Background Music is a great utility that automatically pauses and unpauses your music player when any other audio is played on your Mac. This is a great way to ensure you won’t miss any important notifications and save the time spent pausing and unpausing music whenever you open an audio or a video file.

Apart from this, the app also has a per-application volume control feature, so you can do things like listening to songs in the background while a meeting is ongoing by reducing the volume of the meeting app. The app even allows you to record your system audio which is a terrific addition to an already great app.
Flotato
There are a lot of popular websites like YouTube, Netflix, Facebook, and Gmail that do not have a dedicated app for macOS, and it is annoying to open your browser and type in the URL of the site or click on a bookmark every time you want to access sites like these.
With Flotato, you can install web apps of popular websites and add the app icons to your Mac’s dock to quickly access them. The best part is most of these supported web apps behave like dedicated apps and can show you notification badges, can be used in floating windows on top of other apps, and more.

All of these apps also open in separate windows, and you can also use the mobile version of apps like Instagram, Reddit, Hangouts, and more, if you prefer it that way, by simply resizing the web app window. Pretty cool, right?
Friendly Streaming Browser
You will love the Friendly Streaming Browser app if you love multitasking on your Mac. This app is a godsend for people without a second display as it allows you to play content from popular streaming sites like Netflix, YouTube, Hulu, and even local media content in a floating window on top of another app, with adjustable transparency options to help you get down to work while entertaining yourself by watching your favorite movie or TV show on the corner of your screen.

You can also open any websites in the floating window mode using this app and browse your social media feed, reply to emails, or basically do anything while simultaneously focusing on your primary task without ever having to switch windows. Thus, this app saves you a ton of time and can also help you maximize your productivity if you were ever planning on using it for other purposes besides streaming Netflix while you work.
Helium
If you like the concept of the above app, Friendly Streaming Browser, but are looking for a more minimalistic version with similar features, you can check out Helium.

One cool thing about the Helium app is that it allows you to interact with the app behind the floating Windows without intercepting your mouse clicks, so you don’t have to worry about repositioning the window every now and then.
Intermission
Intermission is an app that focuses on helping you to avoid headaches, eye pain, and fatigue, which are causes of staring at your computer’s display for hours on end without taking any breaks. The app will automatically block your screen with a full-screen message for 20 seconds every 20 minutes to allow you to take a break and look away from your screen.

You can, of course, customize the app to modify the time intervals in which it blocks your screen and the break time between each interval. You can also customize the message shown on the screen and change the full-screen message to a subtle notification if you don’t want it to be too intrusive.
Keypad
If you have an iPad that you want to use as a secondary display for your Mac, you will love the Keypad app. Keypad allows you to use your Mac’s keyboard and mouse on your iPhone, iPad, and even your Apple TV by connecting via Bluetooth.

You can quickly switch between typing on your Mac, iPad, and iPhone using this app, and it also supports controlling other aspects of your devices like media playback, brightness, volume, and more.
Rectangle
It is no news that window management in macOS is a joke compared to Microsoft’s Windows. However, you can quickly fix that with the help of the free app called Rectangle.

Rectangle borrows the window management features from Windows. It implements the same to macOS, allowing you to snap windows anywhere quickly you want on your Mac for better multitasking and more efficient window management and organization.
Self Control
Well, if you have very poor self-control, you can improve it with the help of the Self Control app. The app helps you concentrate on the task at hand and avoid any distractions by blocking any frequently visited websites that constantly distract you and waste your time.

All you need to do is add the websites you think are a barricade to your productivity, and the app won’t let you access those websites for the specified amount of time, even if you restart your Mac or uninstall the app. A little extreme, but, hey, it works.
XMenu
XMenu is another excellent and free utility app for your Mac that lets you quickly access any files, folders, documents, and apps straight from the menu bar. You can easily browse through subfolders and open any file you want without leaving the app you are currently using or switching the Window.

You don’t have to do any additional configuration to use this app. Just install it from the Mac App Store, and you are good to go. You can, however, modify the app settings to add or remove folders from the menu, change their names, sort order, and more.
