Learn to Design “Badges” from Instagram, Snapchat, Facebook, Whatsapp, etc.

When you got a notification on your phone you might be able to see the little dot either red or the same color of the app icon, in design terms, it is called “Badge” which basically tells the user you have the pending notification.

Today I’m going to share some quick, literally some quick, and short tips on making badges better for your design.

This is a part of my 1% better designer series in which I teach you to become a 1% better designer every day, so let’s be better...

#1 Use Attractive Colors

Shop App (Left) uses its primary app color whereas, Grab App (Right) uses red color.

Some use their app's primary color but some prefer the most attractive color in the world “Red” by the way, it is scientifically proven. you can try, is your color attracts to the user’s eye, if yes then that’s great but if no then try to replace it with red and I hope (strongly) it’ll work.

#2 Use Numbers and Text as “Infocation”

Lyft (left) uses the text as Infocation whereas, Medium (Right) uses the numbers as Infocation.

Adding Numbers or Text is a way of “Infocation” basically a notification with information in which you give a little information on how much or what is available to you which motivates the user to check the item as well as inform the user which makes them satisfied.

For example, when you see the number in the cart go up you got informed and notified at the same time.

So that is all for making a great badge for your app notification simple and quick. I hope you like it and I also hope you love the inspirational shots I’m giving below to see how badges work in real life. thanks for that.
