New version of the Surface Duo is now just around the corner
Microsoft has released a new software update for the Surface Duo, the company’s first Android device in history and whose successor is about to launch as soon as the next week.
The Redmond-based tech giant hasn’t included too many improvements in the September 2021 update for the dual-screen Android device, as the changelog indicates it only addresses the security glitches detailed by Google in the original Android security bulletin.
In other words, Microsoft has decided to stick with the improvements included by Google in the original September 2021 security patch, though on the other hand, you should keep in mind the Surface Duo is still running Android 10.
Microsoft indeed promised to bring Android 11 to the Surface Duo, but no ETA has been provided, and right now, all the efforts seem to be on getting the next-generation model ready for prime time.
The Surface Duo 2
Microsoft has remained tight-lipped on the Surface Duo 2, but given the company will be holding a dedicated Surface event next week, there’s a chance this will be the moment when the new model will finally get to see the daylight.
The Surface Duo 2 is very likely to address many of the shortcomings of the first model, and unlike its predecessor, it may finally come with the latest-generation hardware a high-end device obviously deserves.
The Surface Duo 2 could therefore be powered by the latest Snapdragon chip and also sport upgraded cameras that would allow for taking higher quality photos, just like the other flagships currently out there.
Of course, the same dual-screen form factor will be retained, and it’s believed Microsoft would bring the device to more markets from the very beginning, thus preventing the limited availability that came with the first model and made the device so difficult to purchase.
