The first small revision to Firefox 91 is up for grabs
Mozilla has moved pretty fast, and only a few days after the company rolled out Firefox 91, here’s a new announcement concerning the browser.
The first small version for Firefox 91 is now up for grabs, and while the official release notes aren’t yet available, you can already download the updated browser on all supported platforms.
Firefox 91 itself was a massive release, coming with lots of new features, including support for logging into Microsoft, work, and school accounts using Windows single-sign-on.
There are also improved cookie controls, as Firefox now makes it easier to delete all traces of a website from a computer right from within the browser.
“Building on Total Cookie Protection, Firefox 91’s new approach to deleting cookies prevents hidden privacy violations and makes it easy for you to see which websites are storing information on your computer,” Mozilla explained in an announcement.
“When you decide to tell Firefox to forget about a website, Firefox will automatically throw away all cookies, supercookies and other data stored in that website’s “cookie jar”. This “Enhanced Cookie Clearing” makes it easy to delete all traces of a website in your browser without the possibility of sneaky third-party cookies sticking around.”
The push for HTTPS
At the same time, the new browser also tries to use HTTPS whenever it’s available, though for now, this change is only live for Private Browsing windows.
“Whenever you enter an insecure (HTTP) URL in Firefox’s address bar, or you click on an insecure link on a web page, Firefox will now first try to establish a secure, encrypted HTTPS connection to the website. In the cases where the website does not support HTTPS, Firefox will automatically fall back and establish a connection using the legacy HTTP protocol instead,” Mozilla says.
We’ll update the article with more information on Firefox 91.0.1 when the company rolls out the official release notes.
