For this session, I’ve invited Sachi Bhatt (Technical Product Manager) to discuss the SaaS release of VMware App Launchpad (ALP) and the impact it will have on Cloud Providers’ developer ready services.
VMware App Launchpad has evolved rapidly since its first launch in April 2020, originally it could only be deployed as an extension on VMware Cloud Director. Whereas now, the ALP extension is available to use with Cloud Director service, as a SaaS offering available through Cloud Partner Navigator (CPN) portal.
With the SaaS instance of ALP, Cloud Providers can create and leverage global catalog and publish them to multiple endpoints with one click. Furthermore, the new release is developer friendly as it automatically recognizes and extends the underlying infrastructure and networking for the Kubernetes (K8s) clusters, so Cloud Providers and tenants need not worry about configuring any external network for these Kubernetes clusters. Making it easy for developers to deploy straight-away and manage (launch/ list/ delete) container workloads from their coding environments.

In addition, some high-level benefits of App Launchpad Software-as-a-Service release: –
- Available to Cloud Providers for free (MSP contract required)
- Zero dependencies with VMware Cloud Director (unlike ALP 1.0)
- Install applications on multiple endpoints via Cloud Partner Navigator
- Easy to deliver ALP service as a fully managed service
- Provide tenants/customers access to fully managed VM, container based catalog
