Adding a private server (VPS)

Adding the VPS

The steps to add a new VPS vary depending on if you are adding a VPS for the first time or not.

The following instructions describe how to add a VPS for the first time or add an additional VPS to your account.

Moving a site to a VPS does not affect your email service. Email is on a different server and will continue to function normally.

What OS do private servers run?

Any private server added after March 2021 runs Debian Buster. Only actively supported versions of PHP are available on these machines.

Adding a VPS for the first time

  1. Go to the VPS page. The Managed VPS Dashboard page opens:

  2. Click the Get Started button. The following page opens that displays various VPS packages to choose:
  3. Select one of the two radio buttons at the top to either migrate all the data from your Shared server to your VPS or to not migrate any data.

You can always migrate data in the future.

  4. Check the box labeled I'd also like to cancel my current Shared Unlimited plan if you have a Shared Hosting plan and would like to end that service after the data is migrated.
  5. Click the Get This VPS button for the plan you wish to purchase. The box displays various pricing options:
  6. Click the 'Monthly', 'Yearly', or '3 Years' option to purchase the VPS. A success message displays confirming the VPS has been purchased:

An email is sent to you after the VPS is provisioned. This usually completes in a few hours.

If you chose to migrate all sites to the VPS from another server, you can now delete the old server's hosting plan. However, you must first remove (or migrate) any remaining users on your old server to the new VPS before you can delete the old plan. View the following articles for instructions on how to delete or migrate users and close your old hosting plan.

Adding an additional VPS to your account

  1. Go to the VPS page.

  2. Click the Add VPS button. A list of tiered plan options appears:

  3. Click the Get This VPS button for the plan you wish to purchase.

When you add a second VPS, you won’t be able to automatically move data from an existing VPS to the new VPS. However, you can migrate your users and domains after the VPS is provisioned using the instructions in the following article:

The box displays various pricing options:
  4. Click the 'Monthly', 'Yearly', or '3 Years' option to purchase the VPS. A success message displays confirming the VPS has been purchased:

An email is sent to you after the VPS is provisioned. This usually completes in a few hours.
