Do you want to show your appreciation to content creators on YouTube? Super Thanks is a feature that lets you tip creators on pre-recorded videos you watch, as a token of appreciation for the entertainment.

Here's how you can leave your own Super Thanks tip for your favorite video and what you can expect after you complete the transaction.

What Is Super Thanks on YouTube?

Formerly known as Viewer Applause, Super Thanks is another way you can tip content creators on YouTube. Previously, you could pay content creators through paid memberships, Super Stickers, and Super Chat. Two of the features, Super Stickers and Super Chat, were only available during live streams.

Super Thanks is available any time during your video watching experience. The button appears next to the Share and Save icons, and allows you to give the creator a tip if you found their content enjoyable.

You might get the impression YouTube is only focusing on helping creators, but it has an ulterior motive for adding Super Thanks. For every dollar donated, YouTube takes a 30% cut. Although creators get another way to make money, YouTube also benefits from the new feature.

When leaving a Super Thanks tip, YouTube has four different prices: $2, $5, $10, and $50 (YouTube eventually plans to allow you to manually choose a tip amount.) When payment has been completed, you'll see a balloon animation on your screen congratulating you on the tip.

YouTube will also add a comment on your behalf that includes the amount of the tip with a "thank you" statement next to it. Your comment is highlighted so the creator can easily find who donated, giving them a chance to show their appreciation.

How to Leave a Tip on YouTube Using Super Thanks

You won't be able to leave a tip on every video. The YouTuber needs to participate in the YouTube Partner Program to be eligible for Super Thanks. Also, only pre-recorded videos are eligible to receive tips. Other tipping methods are available for live streams and premieres. The feature is available in 68 different countries and works for Android and iOS devices.

If the option is showing, here is how you can leave a Super Thanks tip to your favorite creator:

1. Open the video.
2. Select the Super Thanks icon.
3. Select your amount from the pre-determined amounts.
4. Select your payment method.
5. Select Buy.

If done correctly, you'll see the balloon animation and have a comment added in your honor. Creators can easily search through the comments section and find your highlighted comment to leave a thank you of their own.

Other Ways to Tip Creators on YouTube

If you are watching a live stream or premiere, you won't be able to use the Super Thanks option. Instead, YouTube includes a Super Chat and Super Stickers feature that essentially does the same thing.

When you are in a live chat, there will be a dollar sign icon that, when you click, will give you an option for Super Chat or Super Sticker. Both of these cost money. Once paid, your token of appreciation will appear in the live chat and get pinned for others to see. YouTube takes the same 30% cut for Super Chat and Super Stickers as it does for Super Thanks.

The other way you can pay your favorite YouTube creators is by becoming a paid member. Creators with paid memberships will post content for members-only and have custom loyalty badges and emojis.
