Emil Bertell’s Grand Cru
Before considering Fenotype’s Grand Cru, please take the time to contemplate Emil Bertell’s entire collection. Mr. Bertell is the premium example of what happens when a gifted artist creates typefaces or anything else. Reflect on his astounding illustrations. We would defy anyone to point to a single instance of his work that is characterized by anything less than biting originality and deep character. Mr. Bertell began creating fonts as a teenager, and has subsequently won multiple awards accompanied by commercial success: clients include Absolut Vodka, Itella, and Paulig. He works constantly, also creating award-winning fonts and artwork for bands like Burning Hearts and television shows like Disney’s Shake It Up.
A graduate of The University of Art and Design Helsinki, Mr. Bertell now resides in beautiful Turku, Finland’s oldest city and original capital. We imagine Mr. Bertell strolling under the trees along the restaurant-lined banks of the Aura River in his leisure time or when he’s taking a break to absorb new inspirations.
