Abstract

Coarsening kinetics of systems with long-range interactions has, for a long time, only been attempted by truncating the potential using a cut-off distance. In such simulations of the long-range Ising model, one finds effectively short-range like behavior. This contradicts a longstanding theoretical prediction for the growth of the characteristic length scale for this model. We recently performed simulations of this system without the use of a cut-off and, for the first time, confirmed the analytic prediction numerically. Here, we investigate the properties of the used algorithm in more detail and present a comparison of coarsening using the Metropolis and the Glauber criteria.
