Microsoft promises full app compatibility on Windows 11
In theory, there shouldn’t be too many Windows 7 devices out there that are eligible for the upgrade to Windows 11 given the new OS only supports eight-generation processors or newer, but on the other hand, some organizations might indeed be planning to upgrade some of their workstations to the new operating system when it comes out.
Needless to say, app compatibility is a big concern for organizations out there, and this is one of the reasons some are reluctant to move to a newer operating system in the first place.
Third-party statistics show that Windows 7 continues to be the second most popular operating system out there, even though it no longer receives support since January 2020.
Microsoft: No need to worry about app compatibility
But with the debut of Windows 11, Microsoft says Windows 7 users have no reason not to upgrade to this operating system, at least as far as app compatibility is concerned.
“Microsoft is committed to ensuring your applications work on the latest versions of our software and Windows 11 has been built with compatibility in mind. Our promise states that apps that worked on Windows 7/8.1/10 will work on Windows 11. If you have App Assure, Microsoft will help you fix them at no cost,” the company explains.
“App Assure is a service that helps customers resolve application issues that they may experience when deploying the latest version of our software. App Assure is available at no additional cost for eligible customers with 150+ seats. For more information on eligibility requirements, please navigate to this page. Visit the App Assure page and sign in to submit your request for assistance for a dedicated App Assure Manager. If you experience any issues submitting a request for assistance, please contact [email protected] and one of our team members will assist you.”
Windows 11 is projected to land as a free upgrade for eligible devices in the last months of 2021.
