Daily Coping 22 Jun 2021

I started to add a daily coping tip to the SQLServerCentral newsletter and to the Community Circle, which is helping me deal with the issues in the world. I’m adding my responses for each day here. All my coping tips are under this tag.

Today’s tip is to rediscover something fun from childhood.

I was a serious kid in many ways, often choosing activities or working to improve myself. However, I had a lot of fun as well, enjoying different parts of life.

One thing I think about in my past that was curling up with a fictional novel when the weather was bad. This spring, we had a lot of rough weather, but over the summer it’s just not. Not really a day when I could say I had bad weather.

We do have lots of wind at times, and I hate wind. I’ve had some long days in May and June, trying to get chores caught up on the ranch. It’s a never ending job, and I feel pressure to keep things moving forward. However, we had a really windy day on the weekend recently, and I helped with some chores, but then decided to give myself permission to stop for the day.

I went inside, cleaned up, and got a glass of wine. I sat down on the couch, and opened up a book from the Spinward Fringe series. I’ve enjoyed these over the years, and gotten behind. It’s the fantastic, unbelievable, outrageous kind of science fiction that I enjoyed as a kid. I spent a good portion of the day working through Broadcast 14, which was my spot i in the series.

Now I need to get back to chores, and find ways to get 15-18 in my schedule.
