New Intel CTO is former CTO of VMWare (Pat bringing in a known person), who will focus on software. Surely CTO should be overriding all hardware too?

Intel's GM of Datacenter and AI used to be head of HR, before that networking.

Sandra Rivera does at least have a electrical engineering degree not an MBA.

Indeed, I think a casual reading downplays Sandra's technical chops. Career wise she seems to have focused less on cutting edge research and more the practical engineering and business side, so that gives a clue as to their plans

To me, the move suggests they view the technical work in that unit as good, but what they need is someone to help align it to customer & market needs, and turn it into something better marketed

You're right. I've met Sandra a couple of times and she is top notch. It's just a bit of an odd bounce around; makes me wonder if at some level Intel is keeping people busy while they find roles for them

If anything I'd say the odd thing was the time as chief people officer? From what I can tell, I suspect she might have done that to lead D&I improvements. I've friends who have done similar stints, going from technical project management into D&I transformation
