Tesla sets up data center in China
3 hours agoUS electric vehicle maker Tesla said on Tuesday it had established a data center in China to store car data locally.
Details: In a Weibo post, Tesla said it will set up more data centers in China in the future, and all data generated from vehicles sold in the Chinese mainland market will be stored locally.
The company is making Model 3 sedans and Model Y sport-utility vehicles in Shanghai Gigafactory.
Context: China is drafting rules to ensure the security of data generated by connected vehicles, proposing mandating that any information collected from a car’s external cameras, such as location data or images of buildings or roads, be stored in China.
Reuters reported that staff at some Chinese government offices were told not to park Tesla cars in government buildings due to safety concerns about vehicle cameras.
