When your business is beginning to ramp up, you need a tech solution that will deliver benefits immediately and has the ability to scale and grow at a moment’s notice.

Enter SAP’s Business One starter package. It’s taken off among fast-growing start-ups – here’s why three, in particular, chose to work with it.

Stephen Epenian

Stephen Epenian MD Mi Technologies

It offers greater financial visibility

Sydney-based IT provider Mi Technologies was growing rapidly, but its software system was unable to keep up – particularly when it came to managing the finances.

It needed a long-term solution that could easily handle accounts receivable and payable, profit and loss, and cash-flow management, and also one that offered additional value to the business.

Managing Director Stephan Epenian chose SAP’s Business One starter package due to the inventory, supplier/vendor, marketing and distribution management capability – in addition to the complete financials, which were of paramount importance.

Since implementation, SAP Business One has enabled Mi Technologies to get rid of many manual processes, reduced errors and sped up order processing.

It’s also enabled the team to map cashflow directly into inventory, sales and supplier management, and generate real-time reports that optimise performance.

“I can click one button and I know my entire activity. Who sold what, when it was sold, how it was sold, what was spent – and that’s peace of mind,” says Epenian.

Kerrie-Remedy-Drinks

Kerrie Ballinger, Finance, Remedy Drinks

It lays the foundations for international growth

Founded in 2012, Remedy Drinks – a producer of kombucha and other handcrafted plant-based drinks – has grown exponentially.

The business now has more than 150 staff and operates in Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the UK and North America – and it needed more from its business software, particularly when it came to inventory control, purchasing and reporting.

“We were using a system that was perfect for a small business, but, as we were growing, it became clear it needed to be replaced,” says Kerrie Ballinger, who looks after Remedy Drinks’ finances.

Remedy turned to SAP Business One, and 12 months on from implementation, the business has achieved the goals it had set.

“Visibility of our stock levels has saved a huge amount of time,” says Ballinger.

Looking to the future, for Remedy Drinks this is just the beginning. And, thanks to SAP Business One, it has the foundations in place to grow on a global scale.

“We plan to grow the business internationally, and now we feel very confident we can achieve that aspiration,” says CEO Gary Cobbledick.

Biota

Biota – use scientifically validated ingredients

It offers a competitive advantage in a highly regulated industry

As an importer of specialist food ingredients to the food, beverage and nutritional markets, Biota Ingredients operates in a highly regulated industry. Batch traceability and quality control are critical – one false move and the repercussions are huge.

From the outset, founder Mark Miller – an experienced player in the sector – wanted the start-up to be built on the very best system possible. He’d experienced working with legacy technology and knew the competitive advantage that could be gained by choosing wisely.

After evaluating 30 options, he decided on SAP Business One because of its whole-of-business capability, its reputation, and because it was used by many suppliers.

And that was a critical advantage. Biota Ingredients sources products from Europe, Canada, North America and Asia, so it needed the flexibility and control to manage a global supply chain – seamless integration with suppliers helped enormously.

After a ‘walk in the park’ implementation, the start-up has its financials, sales, procurement and logistics integrated into a single system. And, with end-to-end batch traceability down to microscopic detail, it meets supplier and government regulation.

“SAP Business One gives us a strong competitive advantage and is helping us grow efficiently and profitably,” says Miller.

Choosing the software system to power your business

If you need a software system that’s jam-packed full of business best practise, offers a whole host of efficiencies and provides business intelligence to inform decisions that enable growth, take a look at SAP Business One. The teams at Mi Technologies, Remedy Drinks and Biota Ingredients did – and they’ve never looked back.
