For some, working out is a great, rewarding experience to look forward to. But for others, working out can seem like a chore that takes up way too much time and doesn't provide immediate benefits. Most people probably don't see exercise as something they want to do, but rather something they need to do.

If you're feeling unmotivated to work out or you just don't know where to start your fitness journey, check out one of these seven great apps to help you out.

1. Walkr

Walkr is a fun game that takes place in space and requires you to walk in order to progress. The game is combined with a step counter so all of your daily steps are recorded and transformed into Walking Energy.

You can unlock new planets, feed the hungry inhabitants of each planet, complete missions, and more. You can play on the app while you're walking to help give you real-time motivation to walk even more.

2. Fitness Pets

In the Fitness Pets app, you grow a virtual pet and complete quests through walking. There are four different pets to choose from when you first start: a dog, a beaver, a lion, and an alpaca. Each pet has a different daily step goal.

You can level up your pet by washing them, feeding them, and walking them. You have to spend in-game coins to feed and wash your pet, which levels them up. To earn those in-game coins, you have to accumulate steps; you earn a gold coin for every 40 steps you take.

This app is essentially a step tracker, but being able to level up and interact with a virtual pet should give you that extra motivation to start and keep walking.

3. Achievement

What if you could get paid to work out? That's what the Achievement app aims to do. Once you earn 10,000 points, you can cash out and either get paid or donate your earnings to charity.

To earn points, you can complete surveys, complete tracked exercises after connecting a compatible fitness app to the Achievement app, or track daily activities. You can earn up to 80 points per day for each tracked activity and up to six points per day for daily activities like logging food, meditating, and more.

Even though you're not going to get rich from the money you earn through the Achievement app, you'll earn enough that it'll motivate you to reach your daily exercise goals.

4. 7 Minute Workout

If you feel like you never have enough time to exercise, give the 7 Minute Workout app a try. Every workout plan they have to offer on there includes 12 different exercises with a 10 second break in between each one.

And just because it's a short workout, that doesn't mean it won't challenge you. You'll still be out of breath by the end of it, but it'll be over in less than 10 minutes.

Later on, if you feel like seven minutes is too short for you and you'd like a longer workout, you can change the times for each move in the settings. You can repeat the whole circuit up to six times, set a custom time for each move between 10 and 60 seconds, and set a custom rest time between five and 30 seconds.

5. Fitness RPG

Fitness RPG is another great app that will help motivate you to exercise more. It connects to a fitness app like Fitbit or Google Fit to track your steps and convert them into energy you can use in the app.

You can use the energy you earn to collect and level up heroes, complete missions, and more. Being able to play through different levels and boost your heroes as you're walking helps distract you from the fact that you're exercising. You'll just want to keep walking to earn more steps and continue progressing through the game.

Wokamon is an app in which you build up a collection of Wokamons and take care of them by walking. As you walk, you can collect more Wokamons from different Woka-worlds and you can grow the Wokamons you have already collected.

Your steps are turned into energy that you can use to feed your Wokamon and level them up. There are also different achievements that you can work towards and use as motivation to walk more.

7. Pokémon GO

If you ever played a Pokémon game as a kid or traded cards, this app may be the workout motivation you need. In Pokémon GO, you can collect all of the Pokémon you saw as a kid in addition to all of the new generation Pokémon. The best way to add to your Pokémon collection is to get outside and walk around.

The app gives you rewards every week based on how much you walk. There are also eggs that you can only hatch by walking a certain distance. Then, you can assign a buddy Pokémon to yourself that will walk with you and earn candies you can use to evolve them or power them up.

If collecting Pokémon isn't your thing, there are a ton of similar augmented reality apps and games with different themes. Other major games in this genre include Harry Potter: Wizards Unite and Jurassic World Alive.

Make Exercising a Daily Habit

While it may seem like a daunting task to start your exercise journey, it doesn't have to be. Working out can be fun and rewarding if you have a great app to help motivate you to keep going.

Once you've started your workout routine, you'll want to make sure you stay consistent. It's not enough to exercise once and then forget about exercising for a month or a year. Make sure you're exercising regularly and staying committed to your fitness goals.
