F# support in notebooks

Azure Synapse notebooks should support F# as well as C# to give us a functional option in .Net along the same lines as Scala in Spark

Given the power of F# for data pipelining / data science it seems like a no brainer to have F# as a first-class citizen in Synapse Notebooks.

F# support in notebooks is an *obvious* requirement given the problem domain that notebooks addresses and the suitability of the F# language (very easy to learn to a productive level, python like where needed/appealing, great support for data exploration, analysis, manipulation).

  • Using F# is like using a type-safe Python and would be great if it was supported.

  • It is important to have F# support.

  • It would be cool to have F# support

  • Thanks for your request Geoff. Right now we are focusing on finalizing the C# notebook experience and if we see enough requests, we will take a closer look at enabling F# as well. If you have a specific production scenario in mind, feel free to reach out to me via my twitter @MikeDoesBigData.
