Chinese Drone Maker DJI to Release Its Autonomous Driving Solutions
3 hours agoBeijing (PingWest)— DJI, the world's largest drone manufacturer, will release its self-driving car tech or smart vehicle solution products at the Shanghai Auto Show from April 19th to 28th.
The news was posted by DJI Automotive via the company's official WeChat account. The smart vehicle business mainly focuses on the R&D, production, and sales of intelligent driving systems and core components, according to its WeChat account.
At the beginning of this year, DJI was rumored to be planning to start the autonomous driving business and has already set up a team. However, the drone maker responded that the company has not yet established a new engineering team.
Insiders of DJI told financial news outlet CBN that the company has been engaged in smart automobile-related business for five years, and currently there are more than 700 people in the department.
DJI Automotive is also reportedly recruiting engineers for automotive electronics, autonomous driving, car software, as well as the auto industry. Some people who are aware of this development have revealed that DJI plans to sell driver-assist technology to autonomous vehicles.
Last December, the US Department of Commerce added DJI on its Entity List, limiting how it can work with US companies.
