Classic SQL and DB Posts (3 Part Series)
Hi! I'm Helen, one of #SQL and #database tag moderators.
Each month I'll be taking a trip down memory lane and showcasing some classic data posts. Some of these might be your 'go-to' resources already, others may offer some new insight or ideas.
Let's jump into the posts!
First up we have a classic post from Jacob on the basics of SQL, databases, and why you should consider learning more about how data flows from application to database.
This classic post from Jacob shows you how to use Google Sheets as a database, complete with an API interface accessible over HTTP, and a simple app to handle Google's authentication process. Jacob also explores the limitations of Google Sheets, including scalability, and where it makes sense to start looking at more complex alternatives.
Next up is a post from Dian with "The Ultimate Postgres vs MySQL Blog Post". If you've ever been curious about how the two technologies compare in a head-to-head face-off this classic post is for you.
This classic post from Adam is the start of a series on database design. This complete guide covers data integrity, redundancy, and normalisation, with great examples and tips throughout.
Our last post is from Chidiebere and tackles Common Table Expression(CTEs). Check out this post for what they are and how they work, how they are more readable than nested subqueries, and how they can be used to efficiently answer complex questions.
That's all for this month! For more from the Data Community check out the #sql, #postgres, #mysql, and #database tags, and follow @TheDatabaseDev on Twitter.
