Initial Cisco C9115AX Testing

June 4, 2019 By Rowell Leave a Comment

With a brand new Cisco Catalyst 9115AX access point in my hands, it’s time to start testing. Before we begin testing Wi-Fi 6, I had acquire a compatible client.

So after an Amazon order and waiting two days, I am a proud owner of an unlocked Samsung S10.

To be fair, testing Wi-Fi 6 with only one client is kind of pointless. The purpose of Wi-Fi 6 is to bring efficiency. There isn’t much to efficiency to be made when it’s a single device on the Wi-Fi network.

But just to take a look at it operationally, I joined the Catalyst 9115AX access point to a Cisco 3504 wireless LAN controller (WLC) running version 8.9.100.0. This is the minimum version required to run a Catalyst 9115AX on a WLC.

Here are my results after installing a local speed test server on CentOS 7.

I plan on doing a more structured test with an additional client, once I receive it. I’ll share other data as well such as configuration, setup of the speed test, use of iPerf, and other applications.
