Today we are announcing VMware vRealize Automation 8.4, the latest release of VMware’s modern, event-driven, agile and open infrastructure automation platform. This release delivers new and enhanced capabilities for our customer’s most important infrastructure automation use cases, such as Self-Service Multi-Cloud, Network Automation, DevOps for Infrastructure, Kubernetes automation, Security Operations, and more. With vRealize Automation, customers can enable rapid implementation of multi-cloud environments with a unified self-service provisioning layer and a seamless workload portability across private and public cloud infrastructure. Network Automation provides faster deployment and complete lifecycle automation of traditional virtual machines (VM) and modern container-based applications with consistent networking and security services, while DevOps for Infrastructure promotes a developer-friendly platform by seamlessly embedding operations in the app release cycles through pipelines. In addition, Kubernetes automation enables frictionless development of modern applications on Kubernetes-enabled vSphere. And let’s not forget about the power of Security Operations, which allows security and IT operation teams to collaborate and define security and compliance policies, scan all systems against them, detect issues and actively remediate them—all from a single platform: vRealize Automation.

Key vRealize Automation 8.4 capabilities and enhancements include:

  • Modern Automation. Increase optimization with intelligent storage enhancements. Implement smart placement logic, granularity and flexibility via advanced workload placement for multiple VMs and disks.
  • Self-Service Multi-Cloud. Deliver enhanced public cloud provisioning support for Microsoft Azure and Google Cloud. For Microsoft Azure, this release will include support for existing availability sets, custom images stored in an Azure image gallery, creating Azure disk snapshots and choosing specific Azure disk encryption sets for different deployments. For Google Cloud, this release will support sole-tenant provisioning.
  • Network Automation. Enhanced vRealize Automation Migration Assistant tool will further help NSX customers to simplify and accelerate migrations from NSX for vSphere (NSX-V) to NSX-T environments. Customers will also be able to use vRealize Automation to automate VMware Cloud on AWS security groups.
  • Extensible and More Secure. Powered by Salt Project, vRealize Automation SaltStack Config integration will provide customers with simplified installation, set-up, and deployment via tighter integration with vRealize Suite Lifecycle Manager. In addition, customers will be able to leverage the VMware vRealize Orchestrator Plug-in for vRealize Automation to execute tasks on a larger scale in a shorter time.

VMware vRealize Automation 8.4 is expected to be generally available in VMware’s fiscal first quarter.
