Tesla Starts Supercharger Production in Shanghai
February 4, 2021 11:50 pmBeijing (PingWest)—Tesla China announced that its supercharger manufacturing factory in Shanghai was put into production on Wednesday.
The plant covers an area of 5,000 square meters, with an initial investment of 42 million yuan ($6.5 million), and an annual production capacity of 10,000 turbochargers, mainly V3 models. The company claims that the V3 supercharger can add 250 km of range by charging for 15 minutes.
Previously, Tesla's superchargers used in China were all imported from the US.
The company said the opening of its China supercharger plant will contribute to the popularization of its V3 supercharger in the country.
In recent years, Tesla is rapidly expanding its charging service network in China. Official data show that in 2020, the US electric vehicle manufacturer has built more than 410 Tesla Supercharger stations in China, including more than 180 V3 Supercharger stations.
To date, Tesla has built more than 730 supercharging stations and more than 5,800 charging piles across China.
