NetBackup 9 brings increased scalability and automation
By Stephen WithersData protection specialist Veritas Technologies has released NetBackup 9 with new features to simplify operations and increase backup flexibility across edge, core and cloud.
New features of NetBackup 9 include a scale-out deployment option based on Veritas' validated reference design for "cloud-like simplicity and scalability" in an on-premises data centre.
Deployment options include:
NetBackup – in the cloud, on build-your-own server (BYOS), purpose built appliances and virtual appliances
NetBackup Flex – multi-tenant containerised deployment
NetBackup Scale-out – software-defined, automated, hyperconverged backup for next-generation data centres
Other improvements include policy-driven automation, automatic discovery of workloads, an API-first focus to expand and deepen integrations with existing toolchains and cloud-based workflows, and simplified enterprise data protection for mission-critical OpenStack environments.
The use of OpenStack native APIs means NetBackup 9 can deliver seamless integration, multi-tenant controls, and self-service management, reducing costs and administrative burden, while ensuring high-performance backup and recovery operations for OpenStack deployed on-premises and in public clouds.

IDC group vice president Ashish Nadkarni said: "NetBackup 9 is designed to help customers standardise data protection across their environment, implementing operational simplicity regardless of workload, cloud or deployment model.
"With Veritas' heritage of providing enterprise-class data protection, enterprises can now consume software-defined NetBackup in the cloud, as BYOS and purpose-built appliances, and now in a new, hyperconverged scale-out deployment mode, giving customers the breadth of diverse workload coverage all from a single platform."
