自从苹果在 2018 年将该功能从旗舰 iPhone 产品线中移除后，Touch ID 并没有受到太多关注。然而，随着 2020 年 iPhone SE 和 iPad Air 4 等设备的推出，苹果正显示出将继续保留和改进该技术的迹象。随着围绕 iPhone 13 的消息不断升温，现在有爆料者谈到了 Touch ID 的回归。
如果消息属实的话，猜测苹果可能会采用屏下指纹方案，不久前高通公司推出了其第二代 3D 声波传感器，不仅比第一代传感器快 50%，而且大 77%。
不过IT之家了解到，iPad Air 4 已将 Touch ID 集成到电源按钮中 ， 所以 iPhone 13 也可能采用相同的方案。
