Your Password to Planet Argon

While we're waiting for WebAuthn and user authentication for web-based applications using public-key cryptography to catch on, we still have to deal with passwords. And you better don't lose your user's passwords, because if you do, you're in trouble.

But how do you implement password storage and verification properly? According to both best practices and the law, passwords must not be stored in plain text. Instead, passwords must be hashed. Sooner or later, though, you have to change the hashing algorithm because the one you're using right now was broken.

In his presentation at The Online PHP Conference, Arne will show you how to effectively use the Argon family of algorithms, the Password Hashing Competition's current recommendation for hashing passwords, in your PHP code.
