Life at ACG: Keep It Fun!

Here at A Cloud Guru, we like to keep it fun! In fact, we like it so much that it’s one of our company values. (Yep, you heard right. We’ve given people permission to *gasp* have fun at work!)

We know that our values, and the culture they support, are a big part of what makes A Cloud Guru so amazing. While our values are woven into everything we do, we also set aside time to celebrate each value.

Recently, we celebrated the value “Keep it Fun” with two days of fun-filled activities around the globe. After a busy year of creating new courses, hiring amazing new gurus, and hard work from all our teams, it was wonderful to come together virtually and have some fun!

Keep it fun . . . sooo cat videos?

You might be thinking: Keep it fun… so watch cute cat videos all day? While we agree that would be very fun, it’s not quite what we have in — though we’re still accepting funny cat videos.

At its core, “keep it fun” means we take our work seriously, but not ourselves. We bring passion and enthusiasm to our work and make sure everyone (introverted or extroverted) feels welcome and supported. Although changing the world is serious business, we’re not serious people, and we’ve got a party llama to prove it. 

We live this value every day by creating a culture that’s inclusive, where people are excited to come to work — and believe me when I say there was excitement brewing with this celebration.

Is a hotdog a sandwich (and other important questions)

We teamed up with local comedians and Airbnb’s online experiences to travel across the globe on a fun-seeking virtual adventure. 

The whole family joined in as Italian grandmas taught us their secrets to making delicious homemade pasta. We danced to some toe-tapping Italian tunes while we got our pasta-rolling exercises in for the day. We even had some “future gurus” join in as helpers in the kitchen! Our hard work paid off with a pasta-tively amazing lunch!

From there we grabbed our feather boas for a fabulous time of sangria making with Drag Queens in Portugal. We danced, cheered, made some delicious drinks, and couldn’t stop smiling! It was wonderful to see everyone laughing together and having a genuinely fun time.

Later, we met with a Hollywood foley artist, who opened our eyes (and our ears) to the magic that goes on behind the scenes to create sounds for some of our favorite tv shows and movies. There were ooh’s, ahh’s, and even some ew’s, across the board!

We also took some time to ponder the life-changing question: is a hotdog a sandwich? We met with a professional sandwich guide who took us on a journey through the fascinating history of the sandwich and taught us how to create our very own delicious New York sandwich!

To finish up the festivities, teams gathered for our weekly virtual happy hour where we were joined by a live comedian! What better way to wrap up a week than some laughter with friends?

I’m so grateful and proud to work for a company that recognizes the importance of setting aside time for creativity, learning, and fun. Like much of the world, we’ve had to adapt to a new normal of working remotely, which doesn’t come without challenges. As we’ve continued to grow and hire more than 210 people this year, it’s become more important than ever for us to consciously take time to create connections, form friendships and, of course, take time to keep it fun!
