Tesla Software Update Hints at Support for Apple Music
Spotify has been the main way to listen to music using Tesla's infotainment system for some time, with no support for other music streaming services such as Apple Music, Tidal, or Amazon Music. Tesla first announced support for other music streaming services, including Tidal in particular, during its Battery Day presentation earlier this year.
Alongside references to Tidal in the latest 2020.48.26 software update, there also appear to be options for Apple Music and Amazon Music. Although Tesla has been reported to be working on Apple Music support for some time, the option hidden in the software update does not work yet. In spite of this, Tidal is expected to be the first additional music streaming service to come to Teslas.
So far, the only automaker to have directly integrated Apple Music into its infotainment system has been Porsche for its all-electric Taycan model.

I don't believe they do. When Tim talks about adoption in "99% of cars sold in the US", he means "Tesla don't"At least Tesla support CarPlay though right? Albeit I get even if it does the user would have to switch back and forth between CarPlay and Tesla's native interface.

Glad to see Pandora on there. I must be one of the few people who haven't jumped ship to Spotify

Tesla’s do not support CarPlay and I hope they keep it that way.At least Tesla support CarPlay though right? Albeit I get even if it does the user would have to switch back and forth between CarPlay and Tesla's native interface.
They do not support CarPlay unfortunately. It’s one of the things I miss.At least Tesla support CarPlay though right? Albeit I get even if it does the user would have to switch back and forth between CarPlay and Tesla's native interface.

The speculation among Tesla users is that they're not willing to cede any inch of space to another user interface, given that the majority of the car functions are controlled by the touch screen (vs. buttons on the wheel / stalk like other cars). Why are they making this so difficult. Just add CarPlay and call it a day.
Also some thought that they don't want to give Apple any bit of data on their cars or user base given the persistent rumor that Apple is going to enter the self-driving car space (which is Tesla's main push).

That wouldn’t have to be the case. They just have to allow sectioning off the screen like Volvo. At least Tesla support CarPlay though right? Albeit I get even if it does the user would have to switch back and forth between CarPlay and Tesla's native interface.

The screen is too big, however they could just let CarPlay run in a section like Volvo, or Dodge does. Why are they making this so difficult. Just add CarPlay and call it a day.

Also remember that unlike other cars the ENTIRE car is controlled via the display and every inch of it is used to do so. To allow CarPlay they would have to shift essential functions around to stick CarPlay in somewhere, I honestly don't think it would work in a way that Tesla would be happy with.
I just wish Tesla would add support for 3rd party maps and if they did that there really would be no reason to implement CarPlay. Or Tesla if you're listening, just add an App Store already!

Okay... that comment is just dumb.Tesla’s do not support CarPlay and I hope they keep it that way.
Even if YOU don't particularly like CarPlay... it'd still be nice it if were offered. Nobody would force you to use it...
Me... as a strict iOS user... would welcome BOTH CarPlay, AND Android Auto support. Even if I have no use for the latter, and generally think that Android is pretty bad.

Clearly you haven't used Tesla's UI, it's excellent.Clearly, Tesla does not have enough (good) developers to implement all the great ideas one can continuously come up with thinking about the screen and the capabilities of the hardware.
Why do you hope that? Does choice hurt you? You are not forced to use it. You won’t even know it’s there if you don’t use it. I personally won’t mind if it’s there, but it’s not a must have for me.Tesla’s do not support CarPlay and I hope they keep it that way.

I'll take it.
I am just hoping Tesla fixes whatever is fundamentally F'd with the streaming channels outside of the default streaming service.
Spotify is my main in the car but it is in no way reliable when getting in and out of the car.
But getting in say mid day, who knows if Spotify will even start. Getting it to start where you left it is a roll of the dice.

Seems like a smart move for both Tesla and Apple. Both of them could lock in monthly subscription services from customers that may have been needing something to push them over the edge.
