It took me a while to figure out what was triggering this, but after putting my phone on MagSafe the lock sound when I press the sleep/wake button glitches out. It gets louder and higher pitched and like cuts out half way through. Only fixes by changing media volume while something is playing or rebooting the phone. Just wondering if anyone else has seen similar behavior? Thanks!

I have this and I do not have the MagSafe charger. Not sure what’s causing it.

I’m having the exact same issue, and so is my wife. Same phone- iPhone 12 Pro 256 VZW iOS 14.1. Lock sound glitches out after every MagSafe charge.

I did a full restore and still have the same problem. Must be a bug in 14.1.

I thought 14.2 would fix it but Apple hasn't gotten around to it yet. I just turned the sound off.

Is it a glitch or a feature?

Do you have an Apple MagSafe case? I was experiencing this with my 12 Pro once I put the case on (I don’t own the charger). I made a post about it, and others are experiencing the same issue.

I just got the 12 Pro Max and actually put it in the case before I powered it on. So far, my lock sound remains unaffected. It’s possible that putting on the case before powering on, helps avoiding this glitch.

It’s possible the case is triggering it as well. I had the same issue a few weeks ago and posted about it. Other people are seeing — hearing? — the same glitch.

I haven’t noticed it on my new 12 Pro Max, however. I put it in its case before powering it on for the first time, so maybe that had something to do with it.

Does your MagSafe Case change the Lock Sound?

I just noticed that the Lock Sound on my phone has changed, but only after I put it in a MagSafe case for the first time since I got it on Friday. Is this happening on yours as well?

Having the same issue on an iPhone 12 Pro Max. Noticed the lock sound was sharper, with a lot more treble, shorter with less definition. Basically, less mechanical like the "normal" sound.
  1. Rebooted the phone and the sound returned to normal with Apple's Mag-Safe case installed.
  2. Attached the mag-safe charger to the back of the phone and this triggered the mag-safe sound and charging animation.
  3. Locked the phone and lock sound was now "different" and back to being "short."

The newest update 14.3 does not fix this issue....at least not for me. Currently, there’s only the temporary fix of restarting the phone.

It seems to be entirely caused by the MagSafe charger and/or the MagSafe case. Could something else be causing this too? Who knows. Many people are saying this bug causes changes to the screen lock noise and the keyboard typing noise.

I have the iPhone 12 Pro Max. I don’t use the MagSafe case. I do, however, use the MagSafe charger. Every single time, the moment I take my phone off the MagSafe charger, the lock noise ends up changing to a loud one click noise. If I restart my phone, the lock noise goes right back to normal. I too have noticed that if I’m watching a YouTube video, playing a video game, or listening to iTunes, and then lock my screen while doing these activities, the lock screen noise goes back to normal. However, if I unlock my phone, close whatever app I was using, then the lock noise goes right back to being loud. Only restarting the phone helps.....until I use the MagSafe charger again.

I’ve contacted Apple for help. They have no idea what I’m talking about. Gives me little confidence they’ll fix it anytime soon....

I am having the exact same issue with my 12 Pro. Got a MagSafe charger last week and every time I remove it from the charger the lock clicking sound becomes really loud and sharp. If I restart the phone it becomes normal again, but then once I connect to the charger the problem occurs. This seems to be something that Apple has to fix in an update.

Same problem here....exactly as described by the previous posts. I’m also using the MagSafe charger and apple leather case.

Hmm I actually found a workaround until Apple releases a fix. If you switch the phone to Silent and then connect to the MagSafe charger, and then turn off Silent after removing it from the charger, the click sound stays normal!
A bit annoying but easier than having to reboot the phone every time!

Well, seems that trick only worked for one day, the next time I charged it in silent mode the loud click came back again.
