Apple today sent out emails informing Apple Pay users about a New Year promotion that will see Grubhub offering a 20 percent discount on purchases of $10 or more when customers use Apple Pay.
Customers can make a $10+ Grubhub purchase either on the web or in the Grubhub app and then get a 20 percent discount by using the promo code APPLEPAY when checking out.
The discount is limited to $10, which means a $50 purchase will get the maximum discount amount. The promo code can be used one time, and it is not able to be used for alcohol purchases. The discount is applied prior to tax, tip, and fees, and it is available until January 1, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time.

This could come in handy. I think the Japanese place near me uses Grubhub.

I clicked on that email, and ended up ordering from a place that already had a 25% discount. I guess the advertising worked though. It covered the tip, lol

That might be useful if I were at home, where I was actually in the GrubHub service area. But I won't be in the next two days.
What is it with all these promotions that only last a day or two? I can't say I've ever used one, because half the time, they expire before I read the email, and the rest of the time, they expire while I'm too busy to do anything with them. Any deal less than two weeks long might as well not exist for me.

Can anyone verify if this will work with Seamless since the two services seem to be somewhat interchangeable depending upon region?Apple today sent out emails informing Apple Pay users about a New Year promotion that will see Grubhub offering a 20 percent discount on purchases of $10 or more when customers use Apple Pay.

These companies hurt local business by taking a cut of the restaurant revenues. Order direct and pick it up yourself, or use the restaurants own delivery service.

related but unrelated, was pretty cool to get same day delivery on my Mac(book Air) in the metropolitan area I'm in in like 45 minutes for $9. They used Postmates as the carrier and it was a seamless transaction.
That was worth it for me to not go to the store, or wait the next day for in store pickup with a window that would likely be stretched.

Would be interested to see a comparison between the two models. On one hand, you keep all the revenue, but you have to pay the driver(s), car/motorbike/bicycle, petrol, some sort of insurance, etc. And the amount of delivery people is your bottleneck. These companies hurt local business by taking a cut of the restaurant revenues. On the other hand, someone handles everything for you and they supply an almost infinite amount of delivery guys (like Grab Food here in SE Asia). The only limit is how fast you manage to cook.
Also, you are allowed to raise prices on Grab Food compared to your regular menu. Seems quite fair, especially for the super cheap kebab/falafel spots.
I dare say Grab Food / Food Panda / etc single handedly saved (and are still saving) the restaurant business here in Malaysia - even in the thickest of the COVID lockdown, deliveries were allowed. At some point in March / April the only vehicles on the roads were the police and the green and pink delivery motorbikes.
Not to mention how great it is for the customer, to have one payment method covering all restaurants, ability to give a tip digitally to the delivery guy, seeing them on the map to know when exactly to come out, etc.

GrubHub has been known to grab URL’s similar to the restaurant names and setup fakes pages with different phone numbers that route through them so they get a cut. On the in app restaurant page they’ll list the same number because they know if people call the actual restaurant they don’t get a cut of the purchase. They bill the restaurants so much that restaurants don’t get any profit and end up losing money from advertising and other fees.Would be interested to see a comparison between the two models. If I’m going to use their service it’s for restaurant chains like McDonalds or some place similar as I know they can afford the fees. Local businesses I’ll support in person.

My Grubhub won't even allow ApplePay to be added. The option just doesn't appear. Google results only say "log off, then back on" or "reinstall the app", and neither work. Tried app, tried mobile site, tried desktop site: all fail. Grubhub support told me they would get back to me AFTER the promotion ended. WTF.

I could be mistaken, but I think the drivers for these companies can actually see the tip upfront before they accept the delivery, (I think that’s what it said in my order details from last deliveries). I live out in the countryside, so I always make sure it’s at least a 30% tip, that way I know it gets delivered, but I also take time to appreciate the drivers who make it possible to drive in all kinds of inclement weather conditions to bring you your order.I clicked on that email, and ended up ordering from a place that already had a 25% discount. Thank God I live in Florida. We can still enjoy the company of other people in a mask-free environment just as nature intended. We won't be stuck inside eating Chinese take-out.

Nope. Where I live there is a $9 minimal payout so if you tip $0,1,2,3,4,5 we still get $9. Around $6 we start to see $10 payout. GH keeps the tip and reduces their driver pay. Best to tip afterwards either cash, PayPal or call GH after and add a tip.
