随着2020年结束，在中国大陆以外的国家和地区， Flash Player将成为历史。
微软和Adobe正计划在2021年年初停止对Adobe Flash Player（下列简称：Flash）的支持。目前，微软已经确认Windows 10的下一次更新将自动删除Flash，Adobe也通过弹窗提醒用户永久删除该软件。
Flash原名FutureSplash Animator，是一款多媒体程序播放器。1996年，它作为一款网页设计工具进入市场销售。在当时主要以文字为主的低宽带环境下，它让音频、动画播放成为可能，网页的浏览交互体验也因此有了很好的改善。同一年末，FutureSplash Animator被卖给了Macromedia公司。随后，其改名为Flash。
到了2005年，Flash 8推出后，Adobe以34亿美金收购了Macromedia。Flash在Adobe体系下，加快了成长步伐。
在互联网浪潮席卷的大背景下，网页浏览量的爆发式增长和例如7k7k、4399等网页游戏出现，Flash被广泛应用，迎来了高光时刻。
随着HTML5、WebGL 以及 WebAssembly的成熟，以及不断被曝出来的安全问题，Flash还是走向了终结。
2017年7月26日，Adobe宣布，计划在2020年底逐步淘汰Flash播放器插件。今年10月，微软发布了标注为 "删除Adobe Flash Player的更新 "的可选目录更新，并防止其重新安装，做好了准备把Flash从Windows 10中移除。
Adobe也对还在使用Flash Player的Windows PC发布了新的弹窗提醒。内容显示，Adobe将在2020年12月31日停止支持Flash，并将在2021年1月12日开始阻止Flash内容在Flash Player运行。强烈建议用户立即将Flash Player从系统中删除。
Adobe的弹窗提醒
Flash即将谢幕。不过，删除Flash Player并不会影响到浏览器的使用，在下一次重大更新之前，Flash仍是浏览器的内置组件。
微软发布公告称，其基于Chromium的Microsoft Edge浏览器将与谷歌Chrome浏览器一致步调，在今年年底前淘汰Flash。
