FreeBSD 要從 Subversion 換到 Git

在 #bsdchat 上面看到 FreeBSD 提供了 Git repository，翻了一下看起來是最近在切換，這邊有翻到慣例的 HEADS UP：「HEADS UP: FreeBSD changing from Subversion to Git this weekend」。

The FreeBSD project will be moving it's source repo from subversion to git starting this this weekend. The docs repo was moved 2 weeks ago. The ports repo will move at the end of March, 2021 due to timing issues.

大概是 2008 年先把 src tree 從 CVS 換到 Subversion 上：「FreeBSD src 部份由 CVS 轉換到 Subversion」。

然後 2012 年把 ports tree 換過去：「FreeBSD ports 將從 CVS 轉移到 Subversion 上...」。

雖然已經很久沒用 FreeBSD 了 (最近碰到最接近的系統應該是 pfSense)，但還是先恭喜他們總算要切換了，兩邊的能量差太多了...

這兩天在 #bsdchat 上有人提到目前 FreeBSD -src tree 準備要換到 Subversion 上。剛剛在 mailing list 上看到第一個轉換過去的 commit log：cvs commit: src/games/fortune/datfiles freebsd-tips。(被 rafan 指正，這不是第一個，第一個是「cvs commit: src/usr.sbin/sicontrol sicontrol.c」) 在 Remko Lodder 的 blog 上也有提到這件事情 (他就是上面那個 commit log 裡的 remko)：CVS is Dead -- Long Live Subversion。 目前是透過 hook，把 Subversion 變更的內容同步到 CVS 上，然後把 CVS 上的整套工具慢慢換過去。目前的 Subversion Server 是…

FreeBSD ports 將從 CVS 轉移到 Subversion 上...

有陣子的新聞了：「[FreeBSD-Ports-Announce] [HEADS UP] Ports tree migration to Subversion」。 預定是 7/14 要轉換，轉換完成後仍然會有程式把 Subversion repository 的變更同步到 CVS 上，所以本來用 csup 與 cvsup 的人仍然可以取得更新。 當初選 Subversion 的原因是什麼啊？又是 GPL license issue 嗎？

從 Subversion 與 Mercurial 換成 Git

前陣子把公司裡所有的 repository 全部換成 Git 了... 由於 Git 與 Subversion/Mercurial 運作的方法不一樣，換完後也跟著換 Workflow。 原先 Subversion (1.5+) 對 branch 的 Workflow： 開 branches 與 trunk 兩個目錄，平常測試時都在 trunk 裡測試，測完後 merge 到 branches 再 deploy 到 production 主機上。 缺點是，如果同時要測很多東西，merge 時得自己挑 revision。 用 Subversion 用一陣子，受不了他的速度後，有陣子在評估 Mercurial 與 Git。當時一直搞不定 Git 的 hook，所以就選了 Mercurial，所以有些 repository 用 Mercurial 開發了一陣子...…
