Not getting Dolby Atmos with paired HomePods?
I’m not able to get Dolby Atmos?
I only get Dolby Vision even though have paired HomePods set as default audio on ATV4k. My TV is not Atmos (Samsung 8500 Series) but why would that matter? I’m running ATV4K audio right to the HomePods and only outputting video to TV using HDMI ARC and HDMI cable capable of 4K HDR 4:2:2, using ATV+ as source.

Why doesn’t your motorcycle have a 4 wheel drive mode? Dolby atmos is a surround sound format. You have a stereo pair.

I'm a bit puzzled why you are interested in Atmos on Homepods. Atmos requires ceiling speakers to get the correct object placement. 2nd best is to have speakers facing upwards that reflect from the ceiling.I’m not able to get Dolby Atmos?
The tweeters in the homepod are in the base facing out. The woofer evidently faces up, but you have the touch pad which pretty much eliminates the possibility of anything even close to Atmos.
You don't miss the sound, it is just mixed in with the other channels (I think ...)

Who rattled your cages? OP asks a legitimate question about a feature apple introduced in 14.2.I'm a bit puzzled why you are interested in Atmos on Homepods. Atmos requires ceiling speakers to get the correct object placement. 2nd best is to have speakers facing upwards that reflect from the ceiling.

Well said. I’ve been ignoring comments like the ones above. Like this is for people who were already used their HomePods as TV speakers. I have a full blown HT system with 5.1 and subs and have had since most before most of the posters were conceived.
Neither which has a bearing on my original question or on Dolby Atmos as related to HomePods.

If you hit “menu” button while playing movie you will get a popup with specific info on audio and video.Can you elaborate?

From support I’ve learned that tv will never tell you that your seeing Dolby Vision. Your TV shows you that if you have that setting turned on. So also won’t tell you if it’s playing Dolby Atmos. This whole process is automatic. So if the source material has Atmos then the HomePods will play Atmos. If the source is 5.1, 7.1, or stereo then the HomePods will play them. Pushing the Menu button, as [mention]MiamiC70 [/mention] said, only brings up the description and all of the formats that are available. It’s not an indicator of what the HomePods are playing. You’re TV won’t ever have the Atmos logo because it’s not playing from your TV speakers. Try downloading the Dolby Summit app for a demo. Also, place your HomePods correctly. The old advice doesn’t apply anymore.

I think people want it to be more steps than it is. They want to feel as if they’ve done something.That’s how I’ve always understood the process to work. Set the HomePod as default speaker/s and its automatically done.

Exactly. Most techies tend to like buttons and lights a glow. If it’s too simple must not be workingI think people want it to be more steps than it is. They want to feel as if they’ve done something.

Apple’s condescending attitude and hostility towards its customers. Always pandering to the lowest common denominator and assuming consumers are all incapable of actually using technology. I’ve been using computers, networking equipment personally and professionally since early 80’s and put together first quadraphonic stereo system in late 70’s. I don’t need Apple dumbing down anything.

It's a little strange that the Atmos menu disappears after selecting HomePod as the default speaker. However, as mentioned in the table, Atmos is enabled, but only for some apps (try Apple TV+ shows):
- "Make sure that Video and Audio -> Audio Format is set to 'Auto'. The Atmos option, which is visible when Apple TV 4K is connected to a compatible TV, will apparently disappear when connected to HomePod. You are still getting the Atmos soundtrack though. This can be confirmed by bringing pressing 'menu' on the Apple remote while watching an Apple TV+ show."
We managed to confirm this with 3 set-ups:
1) Apple TV 4K outputting (HDMI) to Atmos-compatible TV
2) Apple TV 4K outputting (HDMI) to Atmos-incompatible TV
3) Apple TV 4K outputting (AirPlay wireless) to HomePod (after updates)
As you can see in the pictures below, the Atmos label in the Apple TV app disappears in scenario 2. It appears in scenario 1 and 3.

I always had scenario 3 prior to the update because my TV is Atmos compatible. It showed even though I had my speakers turned off in the TV’s settings. I’ve always used my HomePods with this TV.
