COVID App Design, From A Data Protection Perspective

Sebastian BergmannArne BlankertsStefan Priebsch | December 16, 2020

On day one of a nation-wide lockdown, it is safe to say: COVID-19 certainly has put up some pretty tough challenges for us.

Online PHP Conference

Contact tracing is considered a primary weapon against the spread of the virus. Building a contact tracing app, however, is not easy, especially when you take all the existing data protection regulations into account.

We are honored to have Marit Hansen, State Data Protection Commissioner of Land Schleswig-Holstein, keynote at The Online PHP Conference in January 2021.

Marit will explain "data protection by design and by default" and look at various COVID apps from a data protection perspective. She will point out deficiencies in today's state-of-the-art system design, describe typical mistakes and highlight strategies to fix current shortcomings.

In fact, after she confirmed her keynote, we rearranged the conference schedule to allow for more hallway track Q&A right after her lecture, because we are sure that there will be lots of interesting topics to discuss.
