So is Apple coming out with a new iMac Pro in 2021?

I've been waiting all year for a new iMac Pro to come out in the 4thQ 2020. Now I am hoping for early 2021. I see no buzz about a new iMac Pro anywhere. I don't want the Mac Pro (its to big, hot, loud and expensive) and the iMac is not enough. Come on Apple announce a new iMac Pro already.

Thanks

I've been thinking about this myself. I have some search alerts set and no real hits for a Pro. I'm thinking that next year's Apple Silicon M1X, or M2, or whatever, will be in new MacBook Pros (14/16"), a "pro-ish" Mac mini, and iMacs. But I kinda wonder whether a high-spec'd iMac will be billed as the replacement for iMac Pro. Seems like they might have a yield problem if all next year's macs have new Apple Silicon, so I would not be surrpsied by smaller iMac having M1.

My guess is redesigned iMac will be available first, and later (if at all) an iMac Pro with similar design. The current iMac Pro's cooling design is likley overkill for Apple Silicon, so it would not be used for update. But this is just a hunch. Maybe they'll call the larger iMac model with M2 "iMac Pro."

If they do come out with a new iMac Pro, I am convinced it will use an Apple Silicon SoC. The iMac Pro will be like the iMac, just with more (and more powerful) CPU and GPU cores and probably additional connectivity and perhaps first to adopt technologies like FaceID, MiniLED, ProMotion and such.

I do not believe Apple will update the Intel iMac Pro with new CPUs or GPUs. They have had plenty of opportunity and never did it, and there is no reason to do so now with ASi CPUs and GPUs on the horizon that will very likely perform better. Like the 2013 Mac Pro, the 2017 iMac Pro will be a "one and done" model family.

I think it is unlikely there will be a new Intel iMac Pro, and there is not the same need for an Apple Silicon iteration.

The iMac Pro is an iMac with a Xeon CPU and a better cooling system. If Apple Silicon scales as well as hoped, possibly all the iMac range will be more powerful than the Intel iMac Pro. There is unlikely to be a different chip family in the way the Xeon is for Intel. A new design has been rumoured for a long time, but even without it, the more efficient Apple Silicon is likely not constrained by the standard iMac cooling.

The iMac Pro does not need to exist in the same way it did before, especially as it was largely a stop gap while Apple sorted the Mac Pro. If there is an Apple Silicon iMac Pro, there is a good chance it will just denote the top end models, or maybe better screen tech such as miniLED.

The upcoming "m-sized" Mac Pro (not the "iMac Pro") is supposed to be about "half the size" of the current Mac Pro.

So... in view of that... I doubt there's ever going to be another "iMac Pro" released again.

I could be wrong.

In a NikkeiAsia report on Apple Supply Chain plans, they noted that Apple is planning to launch a new iMac Pro in 2021. No details, but it implies it will use Apple Silicon and not Intel.

So now I wait.

One thing to keep in mind is that since Intel is gone they probably will change the product lines a bit. iMac Pro may simply be the larger iMac....there may not be two versions of the larger iMac like there is now.

If I were a betting man they will not have 2 separate versions of the larger iMac. I would bet the iMac is 23"-24" and the iMac Pro is 27"-32".

Yeah I could easily see a 24-inch "iMac" and then a 27-inch or larger "iMac Pro" with a more powerful CPU, GPU and higher RAM and storage capacities.

After the first round of Apple Silicon releases, I'm looking forward to the roadmap for the iMac and Mac Pro. I grabbed an M1 Mac Mini, and it is a little beast! I personally feel they will release an iMac with a "Pro" set of configurations, but will probably drop the moniker, and save it for the Mac Pro Desktops, using a similar naming convention as iPhones (mini, iPhone, Pro, Pro Max)

The Mac Pro may be too big and expensive but it will run cooler and quieter than most modern Intel Macs.

Also the current top of the line regular iMac is faster than the lower end iMac Pros.
