We hosted the fifth Treatwell Hackathon and as is tradition, our Tech team competed to build the best prototype, demo or proof of concept in 24 hours.
This hackathon took place simultaneously in London and Vilnius, teams worked late into the night perfecting their hack before the final demos were presented to the business and the winners decided by a panel of judges who were also keen to see how each team could showcase an idea that is potentially useful to wider areas of the business, like Customer Experience, Brand or our Partners.
To see the Hackathon in its peak grab your phone, head over to @TreatwellTech on Instagram and check out our Hackathon highlight.

In first place: Binary Solo — Feature flags
Flipper is a service which allows us to gradually enable features for arbitrary segments of users — or roll them back if there’s a problem. It means we don’t have to release at the same time as we deploy — we can test a feature in production, and when we’re happy, we can start to roll it out, making both deployment and release less risky. It’s as fast as the best commercial competitors and will cost us a fraction of the price.
A close second: 1 Tap — Connect app onboarding via SMS
We want to empower stylists to become Treatwell advocates — as they are ones that have the most intimate relationship with the customer.

With one tap:
* Partners are able to give their stylists secure access to Connect, the software our partner salons use to run their businesses; no email or password needed.
* Stylists are able to book an appointment for a client through contacts in the personal phone book; no need to retype or import data.
* Stylists are able to invite clients to book treatments and manage bookings through the Treatwell app — sent automatically and landing on the salon page in Treatwell app.
And in third (not last): while True: print(‘Hodor’) — Customer lifetime prediction
Thy hybrid hackathon team consisting of Data, Dev and Product people, collaborating as a group of people who don’t normally work together.
The goal: We calculated a newly defined Customer Health Score, plus a mapping between our customer data and a set of customer profiles created through a qualitative marketing research initiative.
Bonus points: Being able to surface these derived profiles (and more!) to our Customer Experience (CX) Specialists.

Hackathons at Treatwell give our teams the opportunity to work on innovative and exciting areas that wouldn’t otherwise get prioritised, encouraging creativity and pushing boundaries to improve what we do.
Be part of our next Hackathon, we’re hiring in London & Vilnius!
