Google’s Pixel 4a release might be pushed back to August, Pixel 5 likely delayed also

Apart from the pricing, one particular detail that remained under the wraps till now is when the Pixel 4a will be announced. Last year, Google announced the Pixel 3a during the annual Google I/O event. Had it not be for the deadly COVID-19 pandemic bringing everything to a complete halt, this should have been the case for this year’s Pixel 4a almost certainly. But, with the I/O event completely scrapped, Google left us with no bread crumbs to follow. It was thought by many that the Pixel 4a will be announced on June 3rd, tied in with the Android 11 Beta Launch Show announced earlier. But it seems that this might not be the case either, according to the latest rumor.

According to recognized leaker Jon Prosser and David Ruddock of Android Police, the Pixel 4a’s release has been already delayed from May to June and might be even delayed by a further month, with the phone allegedly scheduled to be announced on July 13th. This decision was made based on the market conditions, rather than supply chain shortages.

The “Just Black” color variant is due to be launched on August 6th, while the “Barely Blue” color variant will launch on October 1st. And as a result of this delay, it is said that the Pixel 5 will be pushed back accordingly as well. This might come as a huge blow for those who were longing for an upgrade to a very good mid-range smartphone — myself included. It seems rather peculiar that the Barely Blue color variant is scheduled for a nearly 2-month late release.

Of course, as with the case with every rumor, it is never guaranteed to be correct. Although, John Prosser has proved to be a credible source lately, especially when it comes to Apple-related news.
