Anti-trust suits notwithstanding, Google, Facebook on Biden transition team Featured
By Sam Varghese- Comments:0 Comments
Facebook and Google officials have been taken on as part of the team that is helping the new US administration effect its transition to power.
Recent announcements of anti-trust suits against the two digital giants notwithstanding, the Biden team has named three Facebook staffers and one Google staffer to its transition team.
All four will continue to work with their Silicon Valley employers while they are part of the transition team.
Zaid Zaid, an official who deals with public policy at Facebook, has joined the Biden administration's State Department and International Development teams.
A Facebook manager, Christopher Upperman, has been made part of the Small Business Administration team.
Biden's Intelligence Community team has given a billet to Rachel Lieber, a Facebook director and associate general counsel.
And Deon Scott, a Google program manager and an alum of former president Barack Obama's Homeland Security Department, will work for the Department of Homeland Security team.
Google was hit with an anti-trust suit by the US Department of Justice on 20 October.
The civil anti-trust suit saw 11 states — Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, South Carolina and Texas — joining.
Two complaints were filed against Facebook last week, with 48 states, led by New York, asking the company to divest itself of Instagram and WhatsApp. The second suit was filed by the Federal Trade Commission.
Google managed to avoid an anti-trust suit being filed against it in 2012, due to its close ties to the Obama administration.
According to an investigation by The Wall Street Journal at the time, Google donated more money to the Obama campaign than any other company.

Now’s the Time for 400G Migration
The optical fibre community is anxiously awaiting the benefits that 400G capacity per wavelength will bring to existing and future fibre optic networks.Nearly every business wants to leverage the latest in digital offerings to remain competitive in their respective markets and to provide support for fast and ever-increasing demands for data capacity. 400G is the answer.
Initial challenges are associated with supporting such project and upgrades to fulfil the promise of higher-capacity transport.
The foundation of optical networking infrastructure includes coherent optical transceivers and digital signal processing (DSP), mux/demux, ROADM, and optical amplifiers, all of which must be able to support 400G capacity.
With today’s proprietary power-hungry and high cost transceivers and DSP, how is migration to 400G networks going to be a viable option?
PacketLight's next-generation standardised solutions may be the answer. Click below to read the full article.
