Gmail reported down across the world: outage - now solved? Featured

No doubt it's just a temporary situation, but I can't get into Gmail, and both Down Detector and Tweets say the same thing.
If there's one thing the world hates in the Internet era, it's an outage.
Sadly, there's one going on as I type - Gmail.
Now, a tweet suggests its Google, YouTube, Gmail and other services. But YouTube is working for me, as are Google searches.
I just can't log into Gmail, which is my primary email account and system, seeing as I ditched Microsoft Outlook well over a decade ago.
One of my colleagues at iTWire is insisting this is much more than just Gmail. He rebooted his computer, tried logging into Gmail again, and he saw "couldn't find your Google account".
Maybe it's the curse of 2020 striking again, which makes me really happy that 2021 is around the corner.

But in the midst of writing this article, my Gmail seems back, although I am getting this message:
"Gmail is temporarily unable to access your contacts. You may experience problems while this persists".
So, something weird is going on at Google right now, but it seems they're fixing it.
It's 11.32pm in the time zone I'm in, so it's time for bed soon and, with any luck, it'll be completely resolved by the morning - or within the next hour or so whichever time zone you're in!
