Choose a map to play on!

Small village

A small cosy village with only 200 inhabitants and a well equipped infirmary. Actually quite simple. But watch out, the inhabitants tend to be rather older and therefore die quite fast. lol.

More maps coming soon!

Diesease

Choose a plague that will tear your village to the ground!

Sars-CoV-2 (easy)

You know what this plague is. Quite infectious from coughing. And especially deadly to the elderly with fever and diarrhoea.
Usually 3 to 10 days incubation period. And a duration of about 8 to 10 days.
Pretty easy.

Ebola-Virus (medium)

Highly infectious and deadly virus. Fever, puking, diarrhea, bleeding and more fun.
Rather difficult due to an incubation period of 8 to 12 days and a duration of about 22 days. And also a rather high mortality rate.

Black plague (hard)

The classic. Even though hygiene is much better nowadays, a new outbreak is not impossible. And if it is there, it can quickly wipe out an entire village.
The incubation period is usually less than a day and patients usually die within three days.
If you can do that, you're pretty good at this game.

Controls

To zoom, use the mouse wheel or, on touch devices, two fingers. Hold and drag to move the map.

The map

On the map you will find rectangles as buildings, dots as citizens and white lines as streets. The rest is decoration.

Buildings

Every citizen has a home (building in light red) and a workplace (building in light blue). When they are not free, they move between these two buildings and visit friends in between.

States

Every citizen has an external status. This may, however, be different from the real status. Green means that the citizen is externally healthy. Orange means that the citizen has symptoms and could possibly be infected. Red means he has been tested and is infected. Blue means he is cured. And black means, he is dead.

Stats

At the top of the screen you will find your statistics. You can move your mouse over them or click on touch devices to learn more.
You can also click on the button in the bottom left corner to display a window with more data. But you have to unlock this data first.

Actions

Use the button in the bottom left corner to enter the action window. At the top of the window you will find tabs. In the tabs "PR", "Crisis" and "Medical" you can buy actions. There is one action tree per tab. That means, if you buy an action, you unlock more actions. To see how expensive an action is and what it brings, just click on the respective circle.

Regulations

Unlike actions, regulations can be changed back and forth. However, political power is required for each change.

Healthcare system

As soon as a citizen reaches the limit set in the rule-tab, at matches of symptoms or he loses health, he goes to the hospital. There he is first in the waiting room. If there are more staff (people in white), the faster the waiting room is emptied. As soon as it is his turn, he is tested, if tests are available, or subjected to a possibly incorrect diagnosis. If the disease is endangering him and beds are free, he will be treated as an inpatient. Otherwise, he will go home.

Loose

If more than 1/3 of the citizens have died, happiness drops to 0% or the economy drops to 0%, you have lost.

If there is no more active case of the disease, you have won.

Shortcuts

Press "space" to stop the game. Press "," to speed up the game. Press "a" to open the action window. Press "s" to open the statistics window.

About containment.io

In containment.io it is your task as mayor of a small town or village to fight an epidemic and let as few people die as possible.

To do this, you have to impose regulations and buy actions. But be careful not to mess up the happiness of the citizens and the economy too much.

containment.io can be played for free on most browser-enabled devices, without download and installation. containment.io works with most modern browsers. Chrome, Firefox or Safari are recommended.

containment.io is not intended to be a realistic simulation and facts from the game should never be transferred to real life. Please check reliable sites like https://www.who.int for recommendations in case of diseases.

Also, the slightly satirical and socially critical texts should not be taken too seriously or attack people. Nevertheless you can think about one or the other ...

Regulations

In order to avoid infection, the citizens must keep a minimum distance from each other (does not count for family members).
Compliance with this depends on the happiness of the citizens. Makes citizens slowly unhappy. Determine how long a citizen must remain in home quarantine after an infection has been detected.
Do not forget that this citizen will then not be able to fulfil his social needs and work. Increase corporate taxes to fund further emergency measures.

This increases your income, but harms the economy. Force citizens to stay at home. At lower levels, they will still do necessary things. At the highest level, they are not even allowed to leave the house for groceries.

Watch out, that will greatly reduce the economy and happiness! Changes the percentage of symptoms to be classified as possibly infected. Demand financial support from the state to get through the crisis.
Increases your income, but also reduces your daily political power. Call the state of emergency. This gives you more political power and more income.
But be careful, over time this can harm the economy and reduce the loyalty of the citizens.
