现在越来越多用户习惯刷TikTok 等短视频应用，且每天使用时间并不短。YouTube 开始感到有压力了，据称该公司计划推出名为 “Shorts” 的内容来自用户的短视频应用。
据 The Information 报道 ，用户可以在 Shorts 上上传简短的视频，就像 TikTok 那样，并使用 YouTube 音乐里的正版音乐作为 BGM。
根据 App Annie 今年 1 月的一份报告，TikTok 在过去两年里的增长率超过了 125％，该应用拥有数亿用户，并且已经形成了一种网络文化现象。The Information 指出，在过去的 12 个月内，TikTok 在苹果和 Google 应用商店被下载了约 8.42 亿次，同比增长 15％。这也正是 YouTube 开始有所行动的原因。
当然，这并非 YouTube 第一次将其他流行应用的功能 “拿过来”。看到 Instagram 的快拍（Stories）火起来之后，YouTube 也将这一功能带到了其应用上。鉴于手握庞大用户群（每月活跃用户数超过 20 亿）和大量音乐版权，YouTube 打造 TikTok 竞品的做法其实并不令人意外。
