Do you want to see the new defaultUbuntu 20.04 wallpaper? Well, you can as exclusively reveal the brand new background below!

Every great Ubuntu release needs an equally great wallpaper to go with it — does this one succeed?

Now, it’s fair to say that the forthcoming release of Ubuntu 20.04 ‘Focal Fossa’ is shaping up to be fairly fantastic (and feature-filled). But every great Ubuntu release needs an equally great wallpaper to go alongside it.

And with the ‘Disco Dingo’ and the ‘Eoan Ermine’ mascots making suitably strong impressions on their debuts last year, the flashy ‘Focal Fossa’ has some feverish expectations to live up to…

So without any further ado here it is; feast your eyes on the funky, fresh new feline-themed wallpaper below which, I’m sure you’ll agree makes a mighty fine first impression!

While the new Ubuntu wallpaper retains Ubuntu’s standard colour scheme of purple and orange mixed together in a gradient, it does things a bit differently than usual.

First, this is the most striking and the most sizeable mascot artwork the distro has draped across the desktop to date.

But secondly, and more unusually to a weathered ol’ wallpaper Wally like me, it’s flanked by symmetrical geometric framing which is very unusual for an Ubuntu wallpaper.

As is tradition, there is both a colour version (the one you see above) and greyscale variant of the wallpaper, which you can see below:

You will able to download the new Ubuntu 20.04 wallpaper in the coming days from Launchpad, the hub where Ubuntu development takes place. It will also be added to the Ubuntu 20.04 daily builds via an artwork package update.

And, also as in previous years, the image will available in a range of resolutions up to 8K.

Ubuntu 20.04 ‘Focal Fossa’ will be released on April 18, 2020. Alongside the new background the release will include a large dose of theme improvements, offer a newer Linux kernel, and bring the best of the pendingGNOME 3.36 release.

Do you think Focal’s new wallpaper is first-class and fetching? Or does it fail in its task, giving would-be users a foolishly frowzy first impression? Let me know in the comment space below!
