Best news I have heard. Incredible how this issue just seems to be swept under the rug. For people saying their phone is fine, that's great. But for me and many others, this has been an incredibly frustrating event. My video recording audio was and currently is terrible and makes videos worthless.

agreed, at least the official 8.1 comes out next month! so all will get this issue fixed soon. i do feel google should had said more about it.

You should cover the mic even of the mic doesn't suck it really balances the audio at loud concerts

That would be because you're taking videos of a concert with a phone.

Could you test how it affects voice? Voice recordings on the 2XL (pre-DP2) sound well-filtered, but sibilant. I'm guessing that the ambient noise recording fix cut back on the voice filtering but should now make voice sound a bit more muffled, and possibly fixing the sibilance.

It actually sounds perfectly fine! I hate my voice so i won't be sharing a video of me talking haha but it sounds perfectly fine!.

The exaggerated sibilance is the byproduct of overly aggressive noise cancellation. By nature, noise cancellation can actually cancel out the lower mid-range due to the characteristics of the noise. Chances are, the fix doesn't make the mic sound muffled, but raises the noise floor and reduces the cancellation of the lower mids.

According to the video posted by an youtuber ThisIsTechToday , the audio sounds less loud. Atleast I find it that way. Not sure if others could notice the same. It was probably because, there was more sound from his fan after the fix which was not there before???

I wonder how it sounds in loud environments. I recorded video at a concert and the video was phenomenal, the audio however was so bad ill never show it to anybody. :/

I'm sure everyone will be very disappointed to miss out on your literally cell phone quality audio recording of a live music performance.
