The ecobici network is a system that serves a huge number of users, as such, it is a complex system that has 480 stations and has about 600,000 trips per month. Bicycle use has very well known health benefits and saves travel times over short distances to users, while helping the environment, and decreasing traffic congestion in the city.

The network state

The amount of data generated by ECOBICI is immense since one record is generated per trip, each of these trips register fields such as:

  • Age and gender of the user.
  • Station of withdrawal and arrival.
  • Time of withdrawal and arrival.
  • Among others.

To begin to understand the ECOBICI system, let’s start by visualizing the travel distributions over a week.
