PSA: The Galaxy Tab S6 features super-fast UFS 3.0 storage

Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Tab S6 yesterday. Its new flagship tablet comes with 128GB of storage on the base model. What we can now confirm is that this is the latest version of the Universal Flash Storage standard. Yes, the Galaxy Tab S6 features super-fast UFS 3.0 storage.

It’s one of the very few Samsung devices to feature UFS 3.0 storage. Samsung hasn’t rushed to bring this standard to most of the devices it has released this year. It has rather opted to keep it exclusive to select products.

Galaxy Tab S6 comes with UFS 3.0 storage

We have confirmed with Samsung and the Galaxy Tab S6 does indeed have UFS 3.0 storage. It’s good that Samsung made this decision for its new flagship tablet. It helps justify the significant price premium over the Galaxy Tab S5e, which remains a more attractive value proposition for the average tablet user.

Samsung didn’t include UFS 3.0 with the Galaxy S10 and Galaxy S10+. It only offered it with the Galaxy S10 5G which was made available in limited markets. The Galaxy Fold would have come with UFS 3.0 storage had it been released in April. However, it was delayed and will now be released in September, after the Galaxy Tab S6 has already been released. The Galaxy Note 10 may also feature the latest version of the Universal Flash Storage standard.

UFS 3.0 offers double the bandwidth over UFS 2.1. It touts a maximum peak data transfer rate of 23.2Gbps with two lanes while being more power efficient courtesy of the new 2.5V power supply mode. The storage solutions based on this standard will thus be faster while also requiring less power.
