EMUI 9.1 is the latest version of Huawei’s Android skin on the market, but the company is also hard at work on EMUI 10. Fortunately, the Chinese brand has revealed when we can expect more details.

Huawei’s Chinese website has listed the agenda for the Huawei Developer Conference keynote, and Phone Talks has spotted a slot devoted to EMUI 10.0. “Linking things to the future — Huawei EMUI 10.0 released,” reads the title of the slot according to machine translation.

So what should we expect from EMUI 10 (or EMUI 10.0)? Huawei generally reserves nice, round numbers for updates that include a corresponding major Android version update too. EMUI 8 came withAndroid 8.0 Oreo, while EMUI 9 deliveredAndroid 9 Pie goodness. In other words, EMUI 10 will offerAndroid Q as well.

What will EMUI 10 bring to the table?

EMUI 10 based on Android Q means some of Google’s new features will likely land on Huawei devices too. Prominent Android Q features include Smart Reply, a Quick Settings panel, and overhauled permissions.

The Chinese manufacturer has also managed to arguably leap ahead of Android Q in several areas. Huawei has offered full-fledged gesture navigation (without a back button), a system-wide dark mode, and Wi-Fi sharing via QR code in current phones for a while now.

The fifth Android Q developer preview is here! The first and second developer previews may not have brought a ton of user-facing changes, but that's certainly not the case for Android Q beta 3. A system-wide …

EMUI 9.1 has also brought the EROFS file system (for faster speeds and storage savings), an AI video editor, GPU Turbo 3.0, and more. So we’d expect performance, AI-related features, and gaming to remain a focus in the new update.

It’s not clear at this stage whether Huawei will shed light on itsalternative OS plans at the conference, or if features from the platform will come to EMUI 10. In any event, you can be sure that Huawei will want to get EMUI 10 out of the door before theWhite House does an about-turn regarding U.S. companies dealing with the firm.
