腾讯大股东Naspers成立OTT视频部门 迎战Netflix

据路透社北京时间8月9日报道，腾讯大股东Naspers视频娱乐分部新成立了OTT视频部门，并任命尼克拉斯·埃克道尔（Niclas Ekdahl）为负责人，目的是对抗来自Netflix等全球视频服务巨头的激烈竞争。非洲地区的OTT视频服务在快速增长。Naspers面临来自Netflix、亚马逊，以及Cell C Black、Kwese和Vodacom VideoPlay等本地公司的竞争。
Naspers星期三表示，为应对激烈的市场竞争，它第二季度合并了旗下点播 视频 业务Showmax Africa和互联网电视服务Dstv Digital Media，组建被称为Connected Video的新业务部门。
Naspers视频娱乐业务部门CEO伊姆蒂亚兹·帕特尔（Imtiaz Patel）在一份声明中表示，通过Showmax和DStv Now服务，公司的OTT服务开局相当棒，“现在是把它们合并为一个部门，为客户打造尽可能最好服务的时候了”。
Naspers称，埃克道尔将于9月10日走马上任。埃克道尔曾担任爱立信视频点播服务部门NuVu董事总经理。
在截至今年3月份的一年中，Naspers视频娱乐业务非洲用户增加150万，总数超过1300万，营业利润增长29%至3.69亿美元。
