Ubuntu 16.04 LTS(Xenial Xerus)于2016年4月21日发布，在未来五年内都能接收安全和软件更新的长期支持。生命周期将持续到2021年4月份，共计会推出 5 个维护版本更新，是 Canonical 公司推出的第六个长期支持版本，也是最后一个默认使用 Unity 桌面环境的版本。
这款操作系统兼容各种硬件设备，其中自然也包括英特尔的 NUC Mini PC 设备，但现在英特尔和 Canonical 通过合作之后，Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 终于通过官方认证。Canonical 在官方声明中表示：双方的合作致力于帮助设备厂商和使用者更容易基于英特尔 NUC 来部署物联网设备，能够用于涵盖家庭娱乐到数字令牌在内的各种应用。
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 认证的 Intel NUC Mini PCs 的包括：装备第七代 Intel Core i5-7300U、i3-7100U 和 Windows 10 Pro 的 Intel NUC Mini PCs (NUC7i5DNKPC, NUC7i3DNKTC, NUC7i3DNHNC) 以及装备 Intel Celeron J4005 和 Windows 10 的 Intel NUC Mini PC(NUC7CJYSAL)。
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 认证的英特尔 NUC 套件和主板包括英特尔 NUC 套件和第7代英特尔酷睿 i7-8650U, i5-7300U, i5-7300 和 i3-7100U(NUC7i7DNKE, NUC7i7DNHE, NUC7i7DNBE, NUC7i5DNKE, NUC7i5DNHE, NUC7i5DNBE, NUC7i3DNKE, NUC7i3DNHE 和 NUC7i3DNBE)。
此外英特尔 NUC Kit 和 Board with Intel Pentium Silver J5005 (NUC7PJYH)、Intel NUC Kit 和 Board with Intel Celeron J4005 (NUC7CJYH) 也已经过 Ubuntu 16.04 的认证，支持 Canonical 的 Snap 通用安装格式，以轻松部署应用和软件更新。
