Linus Torvalds 在内核邮件列表上宣布释出 Linux 4.18-rc1，同时关闭合并窗口。他称，你可能以为对他而言现在仍然是周六，合并窗口还剩下最后一天可以递交 pull requests。但他现在身在日本，而日本已经周日了，周日他将会待在船上，因此决定提前关闭合并窗口。
Linux 4.18 的主要新特性包括：改进新 AMDGPU 支持，V3D DRM 驱动， NVIDIA Volta GV100 硬件的初步支持，Valve Steam Controller 内核驱动，BPFILTER 框架， ARM Spectre 补丁，等等。
