每天有数以亿计的玩家玩需要动脑的游戏，个人在游戏中的表现是否能反映其认知能力？根据发表在开放获取期刊《PLOS ONE》的一项研究，玩家在流行多人联机在线竞技游戏(MOBA) 游戏《英雄联盟（LoL）》中的排名与其 IQ 值之间存在相关性。MOBA 如 LoL 和 DOTA II 依赖于流体智力（fluid intelligence）测试所需相同的认知资源，这意味着精通这些游戏反映了个人的 Raw IQ。而 FPS 类游戏如 Halo、Doom、Quake 和 Destiny 则更多反映了一个人的快速反应能力和手眼协调能力，因此随着年龄的增长玩家在此类游戏中的表现会下降。研究人员表示，IQ 只是玩好 MOBA 游戏的一个因素，锻炼等因素可能更为重要。
