Display -> Colors is now an option
Looks like we are finally able to choose our display profiles. I am sticking with boosted (vivid color mode). Normal seems to be how the phone shipped without vivid color mode and saturated is just how it sounds.
Please post the pictures showing difference among the 3 modes
OP, just take a screenshot! /s
Whoa, was this in an update?
Still 8.0.0? No update available here yet :(
Is there a white balance RGB slider feature?
Woah. The boosted mode is far too saturated (definitely more than a typical Samsung panel). Oreo Colorizer still works, and when it is on it is noticeably less saturated than the Saturated mode. I've also noticed it makes the display warmer (maybe to combat some of the blue tint?). I'm definitely sticking to boosted mode.
U may be forgetting how saturated Samsung / OG Pixels are.
I got used to my Pixel 2 XL and looked at my Pixel 1 and wanted to barf the colors were so fake.
Color saturation is not color space conversion.
The colors look bad in "Saturated" because they are bad. Taking a color and multiplying the saturation value by 1.2 will just make things look cartoonish.
Oreo Colorizer will show you DCI-P3 red instead of sRGB red. It only effects apps that don't request wide color gamut. It won't oversaturate colors. With what Google did, it affects all application color spaces, even if they request DCI-P3 properly. Everything gets oversaturated.
Yeah, tried it out just now...hurt my eyes. I had switched my regular Pixel XL to get used to it in normal, and I am sticking with normal mode. Saturated way to warm.
pretty sure boosted mode is what vivid color was before the update, especially since it was the default when you update.
So... saturated on my display somehow makes the blue tint more noticeable? Of course, this is just my initial impression of the display now, it's not based on any scientific study.
Maybe its because I'm used to the "natural" colors, but when I'm on a bright white screen I can see patches of orangey-yellow (the saturation) surrounded by a sea of blue depending on how I hold my phone.
I do appreciate that the icons look brighter and more colorful, but the first impression is not a great one.
I'm going to keep the colors saturated for a week to see if I feel any different about it later on.
Maybe that's a factor in why they defaulted to more natural
I see this comment on every single Pixel 2 XL post i see on the internets.
I got the update. No colors option. Pixel 2 AT&T.
My friend has a pixel 2 non xl and has the option after the update
Me too, Pixel 2 on T-Mobile. I sideloaded the OTA updates directly from Google and the option isn't there. I tried the "general" OTA and the DTAG OTA, neither are showing the colors option.
The navbar also doesn't seem to be dimming, even after waiting a couple minutes inside of an app.
2 people have told me they have an update ending in .025. That build doesn't exist on the Google OTA or Factory images site. I'm on .018 without the color options.
The .025 image is now up (this one has the color option according to other posters): https://developers.google.com/android/images
This is added on the Pixel 2 (non-XL) as well.
Google, why not add a custom mode where we can use a slider and adjust boost amount?
How did you get the update? I don't see anything
Just went to system updates and it was there
Screenshots?
Are you getting this on the regular pixel 2 or xl?
So am in the developer preview 8.1 is that where this is available?
No. Stock 8.0.0 only for now.
It should come in the next beta update.
Stupid question but are we suppose to update it via the settings? If I don't see how.. how am I able to flash it? (New to Android!)
You'll receive a notification letting you know an update is available.
