Hey Product Hunters! 👋

Today we are very proud to announce our Open Source release 🥳 kickstartDS is a Design System starter and UI development toolkit for building up your Design System.

Usually Design Systems are very unique and individual to the organization implementing them, which makes Design systems expensive, tough to maintain, hard to get started. Those are the main reasons why we decided to go Open Source (read more in our blog post).

We took great care to create kickstartDS as a meta-framework, to enable you, and your team, to build brand-compliant websites and apps super efficiently through your own Design System. All while using core web technologies — HTML, CSS, and JavaScript — and best practices:

✔️ Design Token with token layering from branding down to the component level ✔️ Design Token utilizing semantic naming ✔️ Instantly use best practice defaults, or make it your own entirely ✔️ Full flexibility to help you in creating your own Design System:

26 ready to implement components with 250+ available properties and 500+ tokens to help you make the best design decisions

Setting up a code first Design System has never been easier

To help you get started quickly, we created documentation guiding you through the implementation process of your first Design System built with kickstartDS in just 5 rather simple steps:

1. Start your Design System 2. Design Application 3. Configure Storybook 4. Add Components 5. Publish your Design System

Although the resulting Design System will obviously not be finished by the end of that guide, you'll have everything set up to start the real work.

Get started building your own Design System today by 👉 installing kickstartDS 👉 following the Create your first Design System tutorial 💛 joining our Community and spread the love 😺 exploring our Github repositories

🤲 We promise, no vendor lock-in. You own it!

✊ kickstartDS is Open Source now. Let’s start to democratize Design Systems today.

We'd love to hear your feedback, or chat with you about kickstartDS! Feel free to tag us on Twitter, LinkedIn or wherever you are 🙏
